Culling (deduplication)

Posted about 2 years ago by Harrison Gowers

Culling is the function that enables the quick removal of duplicated data, email threads and empty folders from a Box.

Culling consists of 4 sub-functions that can be triggered all at once or individually to remove:

Duplicates

  • Files that are exact copies of one another.
  • Determined by a SHA-256 hashing algorithm.

Near duplicates

  • Files that are similar but not exact copies.
  • e.g. contracts for different individuals within the same organisation.

Email threads

  • Email chains or conversations.

Empty folders

  • Folders that contain no files.
