Yes, scanned PDFs are automatically OCR'd when they are uploaded.
OCR documents are effectively treated the same in Smartbox as any other supported file type; the text content is analysed, PII terms are identified and business terms are searched. The files are also fully searchable in our Smartview.
Please note; the quality of the output depends heavily on the scan quality of the document - the better the quality of the scan, the better words can be identified.
Handwriting can be identified provided it's clearly written in block capitals.
Please note: OCR is not currently supported if scanned documents or pages are contained within a file that includes pages that do not require OCR e.g. if a PDF file is made up of 5 scanned pages and 5 electronic pages.
