Why hasn't OCR run on my scanned pages?

Posted about 3 years ago by Mark Callahan

This may be caused by a few reasons:

1. If pages requiring OCR are contained within a set of pages that do not require it (e.g. amongst PDFs, word docs, etc.), then OCR will not currently be run across the file. If scanned pages are included within a document that require OCR, we'd recommend separating them before uploading to Smartbox.

2. If a scanned document is low resolution or misaligned the OCR may not be able to accurately analyse it. If you are unable to remedy this, you will be required to manually perform redactions from within Smartview.

3. If a scanned document contains or is entirely made up of handwritten text, the ability to perform accurate (or any) OCR relies on the legibility of the handwriting. Only clear block capitals will generate the most accurate OCR results.
